Re: 8 platoon C company
I would be up for a reunion but I dont think Lemgo would be to pleased with the return of the Royal Welch (sounds like horror movie) how about one in the UK.

Re: 8 platoon C company
Does anybody remember the ghost of the small boy that was that was seen by one of the RP,s in one of the blocks that was being done up at the time in Lemgo or am I just having a senior moment also can anyone tell me what ever happened to that flaming boat that we kept doing up whilst we were in Tidworth like who actually owned it and were did it go when we went to germany.

Re: 8 platoon C company
I thought the ghost was of an SS officer in full uniform????
Wasn't the dap bar actually the Dat bar?
Are we talking boat as in a yacht that the officers went sailing on with a token peasant just to keep the boat tidy? Can't remember the name as whne I was in the 16th/5th, they had one and the name sticks.
When they were doing the blocks out, I am sure I remember a company going off to live in Detmold and causing a bit of an uproar. Think it was deltas.

Re: 8 platoon C company
I think, although I'm not sure, the name of the boat was 'Shenkin'

Correct Bob! Which was owned by the PRI and the Battalion had it in Honiton, I think berthed in Sidmouth, also took it to Hong Kong.
I think it was sold in Lemgo. I did sail on it once whilst in Honiton, never wanted to sail on a yatch ever again, very fast! I belive it was a Bermudan Sloop! if my nautical jargon is correct?

Bob, Ianto 10,
You are correct, and the story goes? that a young Lt who was doing extras as duty officer at the time(a TA Officer on an S type) was given the task to sell "Shenkin" in Lemgo, so in his wisdom he sent a "Flash" signal All the sigs boys will know about these) to all units in Germany to try and sell the boat, it was said that the Air Commandore thought that "shenkin" was a codename to activate a DefCon, so got all the bombers in Germany on the runways ready to go - only a TA RWF Officer could pull a stint like that

Re: 8 platoon C company
Pub's in Lemgo which we were allowed in ( Dont know wheather the battalion banned the rest or the locals just didn't want us in them.
Bill's Bar, ( I think Curly Clewer bought this after we left )
Walters Bar.
Jimmy's bar ( behind the camp)
Zur Post
Dak Bar
Sammy's Bar. ( Run by Felix )
There was also a bar a couple of doors up from the Zur Post that was a snell imbiss cant remember the name.
Also cant remember the name of the bar which was off to the right of Mittle Strasse, or the one top right opposite Sammy's.
Any other's ???????

John, that was the The "Das Ding". After about 21/2 yrs in Lemgo they finally allowed us in there. Indeed one night myself Keith Darlington, Mogs 14, Dave Ellis, Paul Dyer and a few others actually got "locked" in there. We paid for a taxi so the barmaid could go home and check on her kids, so she locked us in!! She didn't return until 5.30 in the morning, during which time we helped ourselves to the bar..tee hee. I can remember lying on the floor, as at some point during the night a German copper shown his torch inside doing a security check.
Sadly our trips to the Das Ding came to a sudden halt one Friday evening when Mal 96 decided to ventilate the bar by hoiking a bicycle through the window!! Nice One Mal
