British soldiers living in barracks 'not fit for animals' says MP
See nothing has changed then from those of us that had to live underneath the gym in Lemgo
British soldiers are living in barracks which are not fit for animals according to a Tory MP, following a leaked report about fire safety.
Budget cuts have led to an "unacceptable degradation" of army barracks, according to the Defence Safety Authority (DSA) document obtained by The Sun newspaper.
The DSA has warned that the likelihood of a fire resulting in "significant loss of life, loss of capability and damage to defence's reputation will remain high" without investment in safety.
According to the newspaper, the most senior civil servant at the MoD has "apparently failed to comply with an official Improvement Notice slapped on him over safety standards".
According to a senior defence source quoted by The Sun, the fire warnings in the report have been covered up.
They have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind

Another of the faceless buggers who hide behind obscurity, he and many more of his companions need to be brought to book, and I bet that he has a nice fat salary for doing sweet FA for the troops.

Some Barracks were not up to scratch. I think after looking at some of these modern Barracks that we can see today then some of them we were in during the 60s and 70s would be a bit down market. But we just knucled down and got on with it. Made our own fun and moaned about a lot of things. As we all know we were only happy when we were moaning. lol

I agree think, back to Honiton and those wooden huts where we had to stuff newspaper in the holes where planks where missing.
Mind you the heating was always good,.
I remember when we left they did the whole place up for the displaced Asians that were thrown out by Idi Amin.
I think it was the same for most of the wooden ‘Spiders’ throughout the Army at the time.
Still thats no excuse for not looking after the 'lads/Girls' in this day and age.
I suppose the more expectations are raised the harder they are to achieve
