Air pollution cancer fears grow

Particulate pollution from cars can cause ill health
A huge scientific study has produced the clearest evidence yet that long-term exposure to air pollution causes lung cancer.
Breathing in small particles of soot and dust over many years also significantly increases the risk of dying from heart disease, said the researchers.
The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, involved hundreds of thousands of people in cities across the US - and looked at their health over two decades.

My thoughts on the subject is totally agreeable with all those members who support the ban. A very good thread which has got a good debate going, its debates like this which keeps our Forum alive, well done 15.

As a lifetime non smoker, I am so pleased that the ban is on. I can appreciate that it may be hard for some people and we (the non smokers) seem to be forcing them(the smokers) to do something they dont wish to do , ie give up but as someone said whilst we can all rejoice at not having smelly clothes and hair after a night out any more, the biggest difference will be that our children and grandchildren will be much healthier and hopefully will not even start smoking. I know that opens another can of worms about tax going up etc but for me these children are our future and we should be looking after them. None of us would let them near an open fire because of the dangers so why should we let them near a cigeratte?
