EU residents residing in the UK

One of the main topics of Brexit is the EU residents residing currently in the UK it seems that all the talk is about these people the likes of Nick Clegg etc speaking up for them which is all well and good .The only people worrying about UK residents living in the EU appears to be the PM so I can see her point of view when she says she will not make any commitment on the EU residents here when the rest of the EU in particular Germany won't make the same commitment.I was in fact listening to a broadcast the other day regarding this subject and whilst they never named the countries in the EU a lot of them would be glad to see the back of ex pats living in them countries regardless of what happens to their people living here.My own thoughts are that EU residents living in the UK prior to the 23rd June should not have to worry and will be allowed to stay regardless (i think the government are looking at a date of when they trigger article 50 as a date).Immigration is a good thing however it should be controlled immigration at the moment EU people can just walk in no checks and as we have all read a number of them have been convicted of very serious crimes in their own countries whist people from other nations have to jump through many loops to enter the uk legally.I was also reading today that in Australia one of the £10 poms who has lived there for 70 years and is being released from prison shortly has been told on release he is being deported back to the UK maybe thats one of the things thats needs to be looked at over here I know the civil liberties will be jumping up and down at this but hey go and do a report for the labour party and get your peerage.

Re: EU residents residing in the UK

Australia have strong immigration controls and are vigorously enforced. I can cite one case where a visitor from the U.K., had overstayed his holiday visa by about 17 years.
He had a home, wife and family, working as a taxi driver out of Sydney Airport. Came to the attention of Immigration Officers, was arrested, taken to a local police station, from there to a detention centre while they arranged a flight back to the U.K.
No going back home, no appeal but on the first available flight out. Plus the cost of bed and board are charged against the detainee's estate after the first 24 hours which is free.
