Re: What did we sing at the bar

    We are the galloping 23rd
we'll take the enemy by and by
Every man in the regiment is willing to do or dieeeee
    We are the galloping 23rd
second to the navy and the sea.
If it wasnt for the galloping 23rd
where the hell would the army be
    I'll tell you
miles behind the lines shovelling S***
    Oh
miles behind th lines shoveling S***
If it wasnt for the galloping 23rd
where the hell would the army be.

Now our sgt major he never fired a gun
he won the DCM for the things he never done
and when the boys went over you'd see the Bas**** run
the other way, the other waaayyyy
    ill tell you
miles behind the lines shovelling S***
    oh
miles behind the lines shoveling S***.
If it wasnt for the galloping 23rd
where the hell would the army be.

Now we went to Belfast to see what they were doing
and when we got there the place was in a ruin.
Oh we havn't seen Mcstoifen for a helluva time
he must have been blown up by a bomb.
Well if he's the leader of the IRA, well F*** him
    he's no cousin of mine.

    No cousin of mine
    no cousin of mine.
I've got cousins of every kind.
    England, Scotland Ireland or WALES,
    russia prussia and jerusalem.
    South africa, america and germany,
    all around the lands.
But if he's the leader of the IRA,
well f*** him he's no cousin
well f*** him he's no cousin
well f*** him he's no cousin of mine.

Its really two songs knocked into one.

Sorry Rolli...it seemed better finished on your message, apologies for the ****** its in a good cause.

    Al :-)

How about (if we are allowed)

Oh! I had a sister Kitty
And she only had one Titty
It was very long and pointed
    And the nipple double jointed
    Have you ever saw
    Have you ever saw
Have you ever saw such a funny thing before.

    I had an uncle Rupert
who played outside half for Newport
and he'd play with much more fire
if he didn't pull his wire

    Jinks 38 ....

    "In a brothel in Cairo"

Also "The Regimental goat" sung in an Irish accent to the tune of 'Paddy McGinty's goat' - only remember one line "He'll punch ya, he'll kick ya, he'll stab ya in the 'troat"

"The Chorus of The Hebrew Slaves"

That one's got you all thinking - eh???

I'll give you the words - from memory.......

"Speed your journey, my thoughts and my longings
Speed your journey to mountain and valley
Where the sweet scented air breathes a fragrance
O'er the homes that we knew long ago
To the waters of Jordan bear greeting
To the downfallen temples of Zion.......
Oh my country, so fair and so wretched
Oh remembrance of joy and of woe

Golden Harps of the prophets oh tell me
Why so silent ye hang from the Willow
Once again sing the songs of our homeland
Sing again of the days that are past......

We have drunk from the cup of affliction
and have shed bitter tears of repentance
Oh inspire us, Jehovah, with courage
So that we may endure to the last

So that we may endure to the last

    May endure to the last........."

Well - in Berlin 1989 - the band tried to form a Welsh Male Voice Choir within the Sgts' Mess - and this is the song we rehearsed with.

It never came off - lack of interest - and I think that that was/is very sad - if it had come off and come off well - could you imagine it - a large Welsh Male Voice Choir accompanied by the band to die for.

I sing this song now as a member of the BRIGHTON Welsh Male Voice Choir - and if we can do it - average age about 58 ..... !!!

The Welsh are renowned for their singing - but in my time we never got one serious piece together in the Bn. I know we're talking drinking songs, but still - Bob Lloyd had it right - how many out there know the Welsh National Anthem even?

Join a choir and get singing you whimps!!!!Wink
