how long due threads stay alive on the forum?

I am wondering how long threads are left on the forum as I see constantly thread that dated some time back
is there a time limit on how long a thread should stay on the forum.

No time limit as far as I know, Benny.

Re: how long due threads stay alive on the forum?

    Benny,

In very rare cases Admin may remove a post or thread permanently. We do delete spam threads, and when we catch trolls, we sometimes delete their work (so as not to feed them.) Otherwise, we may close threads, but rarely do we delete them.

We do have the occasional personal situation where someone wants us to delete a thread they started; generally, we do comply, otherwise, generally, no, we're not about to start deleting posts just because they're old or irrelevant.

Some old threads from this board, especially from the Researchers, are useful repositories of information that often cannot be readily found elsewhere. Google indexes them, so the information can be found. To delete them just because they are "old" would be an act of vandalism!

We're not talking about archiving thousands of hours of Hi-Def video here. It is not about storage space or cost so I cannot imagine a situation where we'd want any old threads or posts to be deleted.

I do agree that there are many threads that do need to be closed.
