Contact with Old Friends
I was just wondering as the Comrades Weekend is due in 3 weeks time if any forum member knows of a fellow comrade who's not intouch with a Branch or in touch with his former comrades from any of the RWF battalions who could come to the Reunion and all they really need is a nudge and a mate to invite them to come along not that they need an invite!
There is always someone you've not seen for years and years who turns up, so it's a weekend to remember.
Get them to forget the excuses and come along and have a real ROYAL WELCH experience to remember!!

Re: Contact with Old Friends
Paul.
I am in touch with a few lads that were in Alphas,
And continually I invite them, without success at this time
I have met up with some of them a couple of times in south wales
But for some reason they won't make the trip up north.
I ask my self why.when we have people come from as far afield as
Berlin and Canada.
But I will as my avatar shows never give up,
You never know..one day..

With respect guys, Paul you were in the band so not really in the battalion and Chow, I believe we are in the same branch but your service was minimal so your call former comrades is a little bit limited in terms of who you served with. Plenty turn up september so please just be happy that you may bump into an old friend or two.

I'm only quoting this in case you delete it later, you could have left the 'with respect' out, you're totally out of order.
Working for yourself is great, not only can you work half days, you can choose which 12 hours!

Bloody hell mate you are well out of order on both counts, and if the guys wish to encourage others to attend then good for them, its what keeps events going, plus there are guys out there who have lost touch and may be dont actually feel part anymore whom may need a little encouragement, what ever department they where in or time served under the badge Royal Welch!
Had to be said sorry

Totally agree with Keith. Has to be the worst I have seen since being a member of this forum.
To have a friend, you need to be a friend.

Re: Contact with Old Friends
Jase,
I'm amazed you even had the guille to post such a reply! You don't know me I'd left before you'd even joined the Army.
You certainly don't know what I did in or with the Battalion so to make a statement as sweeping as that is unbelievable for a person who served in the RWF.
For your information yes I did serve in the Band I also played rugby for the Battalion and have many, many friends from within the 1st 2nd and 3rd Battalion who served with me either away on postings or inside the Battalion. I'm also a Secretary of a RWFCA Branch and have been a member of the Association from 1985 when I left. I also sit as a voted on member of the RWFCA Executive something that probably would not have happened had my fellow comrades from the Battalion's not felt I could represent them on that organisation. So, all in all I think that I was and am a Royal Welchman through and through..... and can ask my fellow comrades to seek others out and try and get them to attend. I've managed myself to get 6 ex-RWF to attend this year for the first time (1 x Band; 5 x D Coy 1st Btn) who are not Branch members anywhere and live all across the UK....so it's possible!
A big thanks to the guys for their comments on this thread. We'll have a pint in the Fusilier on the 4th.

Jason
You seemed to have "ruffled a few feathers" on this one, not that I agree with your comments, but every forum member can vioce his or her opinion which you have , but let us not go "down the road" of of opinionating on what former members of the Regiment did or how long they served we are all one "family" and let us try and keep it that way, as for ex members attending the Reunion this year there could be a number of reasons why they are not? Let us hope that there will be a good turn out on the day.
Best Regards
