    3000th Member

A question for our Forum Administrators.

If the counter on the forum is correct then we are 6 new members away from 3000. How do you think we should mark this fantastic acheivement?

By getting a few of the other 2000 + to join in and contribute to the Forum. I'm sure many members have plenty to offer in the way of tips, stories, memories and comments. Sadly, many tune in from time to time have a quick browse and disappear again back into cyber space (as is their right of course). There are many members on this site that I remember as great characters, it seems such a shame that they dont feel able to comunicate their personalities on this medium. Lets celebrate by posting threads and getting the Forum busy.

Just a thought , but would it not be more pertinent to mark agreed landmarks . As in birthdays 18th / 21st / 40th / 50th etc .
    Anniversaries , silver / gold / diamond .

    Suggest , 5000 / 7500 / 10000 members perhaps .?

Whilst I agree with Hingey , yes 3000 is a significant number and very admirable , but , I would also agree with Nick , for it to have substance , it would be good to see the majority making a contribution .

After all , you do not become a Honary President of a rugby club just for the international tickets , do you ?

Whilst I agree with everything that's been said. The point of my post was to mark No 3000 in someway in the first instance.

The problem of members using this forum is about relevence to each individual.
It's the same problem every membership organisation has regarding members being more inclusive.

Can I perhaps make a suggestion? How about a stand at the LOF and Annual Reunion for the Forum pop-ups to advertise and mention of this being at these events on mailings etc. Also word of mouth is the best method of getting people involved.

Just a couple of suggestions....anyone else?

Rik, I do believe I have "started" it by suggesting to the "characters" on this Forum, that their input would be valuable to this site. Perhaps one or two of them will respond and perhaps not. Nothing lost in trying is there? I know that it is not easy for everyone to communicate in this way, but once they start they wont look back. 3000 is just a number as far as I am concerned, and I would rather see 300 regular contributors to the Forum. Now that would be cause for celebration.

Gwyn'if it is any consolation we have far fewer contributors posting threads/articles etc on the sister site Royal Welsh Veterans than on this site. There are over a thousand members on the site but the number of regular contributors barely reach double figures. But as you stated you cant force people to join the debate. One member of the sister site eloquently stated he was minded to a post carved on a thunderbox wall.

" Some come here to S*** and stink, others come to sit and think."

"I come here to scratch my b@lls and read the writing on the walls"
