    Re: Dinner Numbers

I hope you dont mind me making this observation but....there are many ex-Regimental Sergeant Majors conspicuous by their absence from the list of antendees for this and other reunions. I make this point as when I was new to the Mess, I was informed that the LOF was an important orginisation for past and present members of the Warrant Officers and Sergeants Mess and that I should join forthwith. Regardless to say I did so. I will be the first to admit that over the years since I left the Battalion I have been guilty of not getting to the reunion and am trying to rectify that. However, I personally was never in the position of trying to persuade young Sergeants that it was the thing to do.
I guess what I am trying to say gentlemen is, as the "Number One" soldier you were the guys who pushed for the LOF, how about showing your support now when the League needs you before it is too late and it is lost forever. I feel we all (not just ex-RSMs) have a duty to those who have gone before us to keep this wonderful reunion going.

    Re: Dinner Numbers

Hi Nick just an observation mate, everybody is missing the point here. its not just the league of friends that is effected this year, the Old Boys and Drums had low numbers this year...We all have to remember that we are in the middle of recession and people are keeping hold of what little money they have, and maybe to proud to say..

hopefully we'll be out of it soon and we can see the numbers come back, I noticed at the comrades golf meetings last year, that numbers were down and again this year will be the same no doubt. But places like this forum and the small band of reunions we have must keep going and ride the storm, once the ecconomy picks up i'm sure everything else will. Just dig in and wait mate.

Rik, I take your point about the recession and am well aware that people may be finding times a little hard however, my post is directed purely at the League Of Friends and refers not only to this years reunion, but to previous LOF reunions prior to the recession. It is about setting an example ie dont ask people to do what you are not prepared to do yourself in the future just because you are in a position to do so. It is about respect.
