Members Advertisement page
Good day fellow forum members I have been talking with Bob with regards to having a Members Advertisement page were members on the forum can advertise their trades businesses and what ever we deem of use to other members I would like your thoughts on the matter
Personally I feel its better to hand over our hard cash to a friend for the work done rather then someone we do not know - Keeping it in the family and yes it is making the forum work for us but after all its our Forum!
Your thoughts Ladies & Gentlemen
A Fee could also be submitted to help support the maintenance of the Forum
PS Adverts would be come under the control of our moderators regards content as normal but a guarantee of the standard or quality of any work/services undertaken would not

Re: Members Advertisement page
Barry,
I would be OK with this idea, however I totally agree a fee should be donated to the forum for advertising. On the point of advertising, I believe this should definitely be closely monitored as I would get frustrated if, when I opened the forum all I saw was advertisements.
To have a friend, you need to be a friend.

Yes mate I agree I think it would be a tab of sorts (confirm Bob) so that only if you wished to view you would go there, as a page loaded with adds would be difficult to follow and annoying I guess, but as I am not a Tech minded guy the if it can be done like that, would have to come from our fantastic forum team?

Happy with that mate.

Re: Members Advertisement page
I think it is a great idea, however levying a charge for advertising may leave the Forum open to question from the Tax man. It is one thing making a voluntary contribution for the upkeep of the site, but a charge for advertising I would imagine, would be classed as an income. Just a thought and not wishing to put a dampener on the idea.

Re: Members Advertisement page
Funny enough, Alun Davies 46 was talking about this today in work, I know we'd be up for a bit of advertisement on here.

Surely the Taxman wouldn't be able to touch it if it was a Voluntary Donation? Or on paper anyway. Great idea though and work for the boys. Braz

Re: Members Advertisement page
This is a great idea. However, I have a few words of caution.
Any form of advertising will be classed as business by the revenue and therefore subject to taxation. Forum Managers etc will need to clarify the position with HMRC prior to going ahead with this but I use advertising on web-sites of clients and my accountant cannot get the revenue to waiver a fee even if the client donated my fee to a charity.
Secondly, if anyone is going to pay for this facility be it as a donation or as a fee then no self-respecting business would allow the web-site to have a blocking facility for advertising because that's the whole idea of an advert, it attracts immediate attention to the user, they of course can choose to ignore it if they so wish.
I'm not trying to be a bringer of bad tidings just pointing out some potential pitfalls.
