Re: What was you doing
Well I was on that tour but I've no idea if I'd managed to wangle Christmas R+R or was on duty.
Wish I'd kept a diary now, but it sure seems a lot less than 30 years ago!
Working for yourself is great, not only can you work half days, you can choose which 12 hours!

Re: What was you doing
Around this time thirty years ago I was spending two days flat on my back in the med centre in Fort George. While on patrol in the back of a open back rover, the RCT driver fish tailed a corner in the snow and when the vehicle hit the kerb I did'nt. Cartwheeled up and out onto my back, thank god for flack jackets.
Could have been worse because a few weeks later as the driver for Merv Harries patrol we were on stand by for the "Hush Puppies" and got called out. On the way we received the call false alarm return to base. On return the boys left their loaded rifles on the back floor of the vehicle to go for a banjo and I had to drive around the one way curcuit so we were ready to go again. Half way round over one of the speed bumps I heard a clatter, stopped made my way round the back to see a fella "who will remain nameless" going through the clearing drills to hand me the weapon. The round went straight through the back of the rover and the centre of the passenger side windscreen. If I remember correctly the REME framed the screen and hung it on the workshop wall. Ho how I laughed, after changing my pants.
Thirty years, where as it all gone.
