Searching for fathers service
Hi I’m Mike Hampson Thank you for allowing me onto you sitemy father served with the RWF in WW11. He is Clifford Hampson his service number was 4194116 pte, he has both Burma Star Medals. He was from Llanrwst N. Wales.
Would it be possible to have some details of his service with the RWF. He died over 30 years ago but would never discus his service. We are a little confused as we have not got his birth certificate and have two dates. 3 October 1922 or 21
i hope you will be able to help

Re: Searching for fathers service
All I can find is that Clifford Hampson joined 6 RWF (enlistment date unknown) and was transferred to the Wiltshire Regt on 20/12/1944.
You can apply for a copy of the service record. See https://rwf-forum.co.uk/vBulletin/sh...-WW2-PERSONNEL for further information.

Re: Searching for fathers service
I can't find anything extra at this stage than what baconwallah has flagged up.
He appears in Vol 17 of the Enlistment Records, so I'm guessing by his year of birth, he may have been a pre-war territorial? As a marker…. Harold Jones was born in 1921. He joined the 7th Bn(TA) in 1937 as a Boy Soldier aged 15. His service number was: 4193285 Compared to your Dad's 4194116, Harold joined before, by about 800 numbers.
You mention two Burma Star medals. To my limited knowledge only one was awarded so I'm wondering what the other medal is, can you possibly post a picture of the medal group please?
Only the 1st and 2nd Bn RWF served in India and Burma. So he must either been transferred within the regiment to one of those units from the 6th Bn, or perhaps he's ended up in Burma towards the end of the war with the Wiltshire Regiment, following his transfer out from the regiment in Dec 1944. Keep us posted please, we can certainly help you decipher his service records.

Re: Searching for fathers service
A little more information. On the out break of War the Wiltshire Regiment found it's 2 Regular Battalions stationed in British India (1st Battalion ) and Palestine ( 2nd Battalion ).
The 1st Battalion remained in India / Burma throughout the war being joined by the war time raised 3rd Battalion, both becoming part of the 4th Indian Infantry Brigade from October 1943 onwards. It would appear that his war time service after transfer in 1944 was with either 1 or 3rd Battalion, Wiltshire Regiment.

Re: Searching for fathers service
Parky62,
I don't know if this helps but I checked the England & Wales birth registrations between January 1919 and December 1923. Bear in mind that the law required births to be registered within 3 months or so of the event. The entries for Clifford Hampson births (that is, with Clifford as the sole or first forename) were as follows:
Oct-Dec. 1919 in Bolton Registration District (Lancs), mother's pre-marriage name Walmsley
Apl-June 1920 in Glossop Reg. Dist. (Derbyshire), mother's pre- name Walker
Oct-Dec 1920 in Bridgend Reg. Dist. (Glamorgan), mother's pre- name Griffiths (he also had a middle initial W.)
Apl-June 1923 in Bucklow Reg. Dist. (on the Lancs/Cheshire border), mother's pre- name Stubbs

Re: Searching for fathers service
Hi,
I am not sure if this helps but there was a 4199619 L/Cpl T. Hampson in "D" Company 2nd Battalion RWF, who was in Burma in April 1944.
