Not all the time. They were quick off the mark to give technical and military support to the Argentinian military during the Falklands War.

Re: European armed force
BRITAIN has bailed out penny-pinching EU states over defence for years, a shocking report revealed.
It said EU member states have “short-changed” their own defence to the tune of nearly £340 billion over the past five years.
And Britain has subsidised the defence of Europe by £17 billion over the same period, said The Henry Jackson Society think tank.
Its report 'What the European Union owes the United Kingdom' said the UK’s contribution to continent-wide defence should be taken into account in the Brexit negotiations over the divorce bill.

Re: European armed force
I wonder how long it will be before the Krauts start oiling the sprockets on their Panzers, trying the coal scuttle helmets for size and go stomping about in their big boots and take over?

Re: European armed force
Thought that was one of the reasons that NATO standardised all armaments so that when the French surrendered the rest of the alliance could then use them
