Mike Hornby - 1RWF
With a heavy heart we report the sudden death of Mike Hornby ex 1RWF, who passed away this morning. Mike really was one of the good guys, loved by his men and respected by his peers, this is such terrrible news. Mike and his family were a real Royal Welch family and played such a huge part in our lives over many years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Katrina, their family, friends and comrades. We're all thinking of you.

Just to emphasise in what Al has said I served along side Mike for many years in the 1st and Mike was God father to my youngest son Tom. A sudden shock he will be sadly missed by our family.
Our thoughts are with Katrina and the family, friends and Fellow Comrades at this time. May You Rest In Peace Mike.

Re: Mike Hornby - 1RWF
His kindness knew no bounds, He and Katrina hosted my Mum and Dad at a Sgt's mess function(Country & Western night) in Berlin many years ago, I was unable to attend. Benny you may have been sat with them. Mike & Katrina looked after them, like they'd known them all their lives, Mum and Dad were so grateful, as was I, a SNCO, who'd only been promoted 4 days previous! No side with Mike, he was a genuinely nice person……now on the football pitch, that was a different story!

Re: Mike Hornby - 1 RWF
It is always difficult to come to terms with the death of a friend and this is especially the case with Mike. I first met Mike in Honiton, where we both played football for the local football team. He was a civilian at the time and I had no idea he would join the RWF some years later.
He was a kind, tough, honest soldier and I will remember him as a man that simply got on with his job, a man widely admired and respected for his professionalism and character.
We have lost a wonderful friend and colleague but our loss is as nothing compared with that of his wife, Katrina, and my thoughts and prayers are with her at the most difficult of times.
