Morning everyone today 41years ago a friend and comrade died in a bombing in ballakinlar spelt that wrong lance corporal Alan Coughlan while attached to the duke if Edinburg's please take a small tome to remember thank you.

Young Coughlan came to my company in Ballykinler. I was a Company Sergeant major at that time, Coughlan came with a chap called Swannick. They came to me because being a fellow Welshman I asked for them both, the assist Adjutant readily agreed. Couglan and Swannick were most inseparable as friends, and two really good soldiers. I left after some months to go back to 1RRW. Sadly and later I learned of the Van bomb that killed them both. I often think of the fate that caused me to ask for them, they would perhaps be here today if I hadn't. The assistant adjutant was killed some months before Coughlan and Swannick.
