New Book - THE UNKNOWN GRANDFATHER

I have just published the life story of my grandfather Robert Robinson Cawley from his personal army records and Regimental records. He served with the 1st Battalion in India and South Africa during the period 1890 to 1906. He re-enlisted in the early weeks of WW! and served with the 8th ( Service ) Battalion in Gallipoli and Mesopotamia before transferring to the Indian Army as Lt & Quartermaster in April 1918. It is a "warts and all" story of a boy from the Oldham slums who was detained for four years at an Industrial School before joining the RWF at the age of fourteen and going through the ranks to RSM. He was awarded the MSM and DCM. The book is now on the Amazon, Waterstones and Blackwells sites. The book can also be obtained direct from the publisher on aspect-design.net

Quite a short book and with much cribbed from the regimental histories, but with some unpublished family information and he had an interesting career.
