My daughter Kelly is doing a charity walk in September 100 kms in 72 hours. She asked me some months back to help her prepare for it. So for the last few months every weekend we have done a tab averaging 20 km. Last weekend I said I would assess her fitness by doing a long tab around the Gower coast from Penclawd anti clockwise ending in Swansea. We were both carrying Bergans with spare clothing and Army rations for our 3 day jaunt. My Bergan was almost twice as heavy as Kelly’s. About 2km after the start Kelly says I can’t possibly go any further carrying this Bergan we have to get rid of some of the food from my pack. I reluctantly agreed but insisted on keeping the brew kit stove etc. I was not amused when reaching our campsite to see Kelly pulling a makeup bag out of her pack. Kelly’s answer “well a girl has to look good for the selfies, make up is more inportant than food” Next saga she leaves her socks outside the tent in the rain so no spare dry socks result I had to give her my spare socks. All that said I really enjoyed the weekend and felt quite good that aged 66 and falling apart at the seams I can put in a hard tab.
Many thanks to my good friend Mike Donnelly for helping me with the logistics.
