Hong Kong Old Sweats - 2015

A couple of pictures supplied by Col Peter Knox from his recent trip to Hong Kong.

Firstly at the United Services Club. Then at the front gate of Gun Club Barracks. Which is now occupied by the Chinese PLA

Re: Hong Kong Old Sweats - 2015

Stood in about that same spot in March 2000 when we went back to spend our 30th wedding anniversary down memory lane. Can't find the photos. I was still using a ZX Spectrum so didn't know about such things as digital cameras .

All joking aside, it was quite surreal standing across the road from the open gate and looking up at a PLA sentry with a BIG rifle (and I bet he had bullets for it, unlike us in the same spot 30 years previously) taking position in the sentry box. Behind me was the vets office (still a vets office!) where we used to take our mongrel Teesha to be looked after. Sad memories all round.

I'll swear that as I turned left to go back up past the tennis club on Erskine Road I glimpsed Tom Owen 05 standing rigid in his OG shorts, red sash and pace stick, toe caps still glistening in the sunshine, on the verandah in front of the guardroom about to call out the guard!

A brief visit in 1993 when on route to live the rest of my life in Canada. Stood at the gates of Gun Club right there and was asked by guards not to take photos. Lots of very fond memories there that's for sure.
