Two young supermarket workers were so in awe of 99-year-old Jack Bellis buying a smartphone that they paid his first bill out of their own pockets and even taught him how to take a selfie!
Jack, born in 1916, went to his local superstore to buy himself a phone to keep in contact with younger members of his family.
He got chatting to staff members Callum Broad, 23, and Peter Thackway, 31, and told them his war stories, how he joined the Royal Welch Fusiliers and drove a Bren gun carrier in Normandy with the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry.
The pair were so impressed by his war service that they paid for his first month’s subscription on his new phone.
Jack’s daughter, Sandra Davies, said: “They were just amazed by his date of birth!
“After the chat, the lads gave him his money back and said they had sorted his first mobile phone payment themselves out of respect.”
What a wonderful story to end the week on! Enjoy your weekend everyone!
