Looking for friends and colleagues of John Roeser
Hi
I am looking for friends of my dad who was in 1.RWF from mid-60's to mid-70's. His initial division was Prince of Wales (in 1965).
He served in Cyprus '66, Hong Kong '67 & 70, Korea '69 and Northern Ireland '73 to '78.
On 31/8/1978 he was killed in a RTC in Lisburn, Co. Antrim and by which point he has transferred to Int. Corps.
I was 2 and a half when my dad was killed and I would love to hear from and connect with anyone who knew him and help me to hear about the man and solider I never got to know.
I'm a total newbie to forums and how they work and how I can best spread my message, so please, if anyone can help me through this process, I'd be really grateful.
Thanks in advance, for any help you can offer
Frankie

Frankie, welcome to the forum.
There will be many friends of your Dad on here. Myself for one, he was my mentor when I joined the Mortar Platoon in Hong Kong.
I do not have any photo's of your Dad, but will make enquires on Facebook as well.

Hi, Frankie, I remember your dad well, he was a great friend , and his passing in the vehicle accident, was a great shock to a lot of us who knew him , when I joined the mortars in Germany , Minden , he was my lance corporal, we had great times in Cyprus, for six months , a lot of time spent swimming , he did have a pair of massive shoulders, ( he could have been Olympic class, ) I, m sure he was brought up , near the Crystal Palace swimming pool, then in Hoiton, Devon , he was my co driver, when we drove from there , through Germany and Denmark, on a few weeks exercise, and back again to Honiton , a co driver that could not drive. I left the mortars on promotion to a rifle comany, lost touch a little , but your dad was one of the best ,who would do anything for you .brought back quite a few good memories thinking of our time together, I, m sure others have similar memories.

Hi Frankie,
Your dad was my best friend, we were together in Hong Kong and he used to visit myself and my wife Carol in quarters in HK.
We did lots of things together, we were in the Mortar Platoon. We were also in NI together and in Tidworth. I only learnt of his death after his funeral. Also we used to exchange Xmas cards with your grandparents and your uncle Bob Bennett.

Re: Looking for friends and colleagues of John Roeser
Hello! It's so lovely to hear from you guys. Joe, my mum (Maggie or some friends call her Peggie) actually mentioned you by name the other day but was struggling to remember others. Jeff Morton was another she mentioned. Jinx 56 - thank you too for the stories and you sound like a great co-driver!! You're right about Crystal Palace though - he was brought up in a place called Cintra Park in Upper Norwood so he must have started his craze for swimming as a child! - If either of you (Joe and Jinx are on Facebook? If so, please connect with me as I find this forum really hard to work around but don't let that stop you posting anything about my dad, I'll find the info on here eventually!
Many thanks again - your info and stories mean the world to me x
