    Thanks for your thoughts. I am able to get the usual births/marriage/death stuff - just thought it might help you to know where he was on a certain date - its believed Margaret was killed in a motor cycle accident. I will need to see my brother in law to get photos from him, but it probably won't be until later in the week. Seems to be getting more likely that 553140 might be D K H's number. Great investigations, thank you

    Good morning gentlemen
    This is the best I can find of the photos of Denis Kenred Hawkins born 1915. Hope they are helpful. Denis is the one in long trousers in the first photo. Many thanks again for all your help. I think my brother in law is going to send for the service record of 553140 in the hope that it is the correct one. I think they are mostly around 1941

    The photos show him wearing the Royal Tank Regt beret and badge. The RTR had a 55xxxx number series, so that fits. His rank would have been Trooper.
