2007-40 years from leaving Aden
Greetings to one and all;
At the end of November 1967, the last troops left Aden and ended over 125 years of British rule. As we all know, as soon as the Government of the day decided to pull out, the various factions created the conflict which resulted in the loss of many lives not to mention those whose were injured and the families who were all affected. Please can those of you who are able to do so, please try to get this Anniversary mentioned with your associations; clubs etc, especially in November on Remembrance Day. Aden Veterans Association hold their annual reunion in Blackpool from 21-24 September and full details can be obtained from myself. In addition to that there is our website at adenveterans.org which will give other details. Many thanks for your support.

I was one of the last South Wales Borderers 24th to leave Aden I was a Pte on the rear party.The Royal Marines took over from us for the last few months and if I remember they had two lads killed. We had two killed in the 9 months we were there and scores wounded, mainly from grenade incidents.

Re: 2007-40 years from leaving Aden
For JCJ, at the moment, I understand that there are going to be 4 or 5 former SWB attending the AVA Annual reunion in September and I met four of them in July at Maindy Barracks. On top of that, and I sincerely hope this turns out, but there is another AVA member considering coming from Canada whose ancester was one Francis Porteous who fell at Isandlwhana. The world is getting smaller! Even though they may not be members of AVA, the families of those who lost someone would be welcome to join us - in fact we have a few members in this category. Best wishes
