    Top general warns over 'hollowed-out' armed forces

    Only Mho but;

    Makes a change for the Chief of the Defence Staff,to raise concerns while he is actually in office and not wait until he retires or is writing the inevitable autobiography.

    In contrast the RN Admiral was all fancy words with no substance. Chief of the Naval Staff, First Sea Lord Admiral Sir George Zambellas, said:

    "It is quite true that the Royal Navy is under significant manpower pressure, in key specialist skills to meet today's commitments."This is a recognised leadership and management challenge that is part and parcel of the Royal Navy's renaissance and we are working closely within and across defence to meet that challenge, but also to chase the opportunities it offers. But, I do not expect it to throw us off track.

    Clearly wants to take over as CDS or desperate for a knighthood, gutless t***

    But this sort of managementspeak goes down well with the politicians. Speaking much but saying nothing is their stock in trade.

    Hello J C J,
    Very true summary of events. I was rather drawn to the last sentence in your thread. I thought it unusually mild for you, but true none the less.
    Regards R B D

    I guess if the Navy are needed in any great numbers again the Press Gang will be touring the Inns and Brothels of our fair nation,as for the Army we will be ok when the bosses give the extra 20,00 Ta (OR WHATEVER THEY CALL THEM NOW)the time off to pop to some small part of the world were we are sticking our noses in where we should not be.

    Didn't we discuss this a few weeks ago…19 ships? Recruiting by Capita or similar…... Nice to see Gen Houghton laying out his stall….So he can now say at the designated point of failure "I told you so". I look forward to Gen Walls resignation when the new recruiting process and regular army manning levels are also shown to fail. As CGS he constantly failed to rally against the way the new manning levels would be achieved. Here is an interesting article by Crispin Black MP(Ex Welsh Guards), who doesn't pull any punches about whose at fault and who failed to show proper leadership.

    We might as well hand over our seat on the UN Security Council, we certainly don't act like we want it, we can concentrate on peace keeping or delivering aid….Give it to a nation with proper military outreach…..Brazil, India or similar.
