REF WW1 records
As it is 100 years next year since the start of WW1 I have took the task of finding more about the names of lads that were killed during WW1, which names are on our local monument.
I subscribed to forces war records as I thought that their names would appear.
I was dissapoined to find that about 50 per cent don`t appear on the listings. Is there any other way that I can find more about the names that don`t appear on the forces war records ? e.g other sites etc.

Re: REF WW1 records
You could try list their names here, I'm sure we could help!

Re: REF WW1 records
Best approach would be to check the names in Soldiers Died and the Medal Index Cards. That requires an Ancestry subscription. The CWGC site is also an excellent source (no subscription required). Once you have identified the men, you can start looking for service records (Ancestry again). In the Research sectiion we'll be happy to assist with any specific requests for information.

Re: REF WW1 records
Hello,
If you have a copy of "Soldiers killed in the Great War R W F it will list these men, there are some errors Typo mainly in both numbers and even names. As regards men who are not on local war memorials this becomes complicated there was a case of a man in Cowbridge who moved house when this monument was set up and engraved and his name was missed and put on the memorial many years later. This may pose a problem.
