Can Wales pull off the Slam
France looked quite impressive against Italy and were frozen out for the Irish contest so we were left wondering (or at least I was), just how good are France. Against Scotland they did not look so invincible and the Italians looked even worse against the Irish. So, where does that leave the Welsh in terms of the slam. I suppose it depends on whether you believe the performance at HQ was a vast improvement by England or a pretty mediocre performance by Wales. My personal opinion is the latter, I think Wales are much better than that, France were made to look good in their opening game, (no disrespect to the Italians but the high tackles let them through) Scotland revealed the true level that the French are at and for me ............Wales can win the Slam. What do you think.

Re: Can Wales pull off the Slam
Gwyn,
Personally i think France will be the team that will give Wales their toughest challenge, whether Wales were lucky or not with England not allowed their last try (although would they have converted the 2 pointer from there ?)
Wales would have to change a few things and sort out their in-play kicking. France will make Wales play for the 80 minutes, not like the spurts that England allowed them last weekend
Like most of the members on the Forum, there would be nothing better than Wales claiming a clean sweep this season

Re: Can Wales pull off the Slam
Yes of course Wales can win the Grand slam,Italy not a problem and as we all are saying what French side will turn up,however i think Wales now have that belief and winning mental attitude to go on and win the slam they have problems in the line out that need sorting but overall are playing with belief and that is very important factor,
The bookmakers have Wales firm Favs to win the slam and they normally get it correct,
As Gwyn said lets have a few more opinions on this post make it more interesting as i dont like Gwyn beating me all the time i need to have a pop at someone else Lol

Lofty it wasn't a try look at the replays?? yep think Wales will be to strong for france at home, bit worried about our attitude when we play Italy hope they are not thinking a game ahead and let Italy in.

Re: Can Wales pull off the Slam
I think the Grand Slam is ours for the taking but of course it will be a tough match against the French. However, France have got two tough matches in a row before they meet Wales and I fancy Ireland to knock the stuffing out of them. If Wales can stay injury free against Italy then it will be "game on" agaist the French. Of course they also have to have good discipline and not have anyone sent to the bin (or off). Mistakes like poor kicking, charge downs etc will really cost us against France, they will certainly make us pay.
The rugby being played by Wales is starting to look like the way they played in the early 70's, which was terrific. Let's hope this trend continues. WALES! WALES! WALES!
