I have received the following notice from Wrexham

Gentlemen,

With sadness we inform you of the death of Bishop Ivor Rees who passed away peacefully at home on 11 January 2012.

The funeral, a private family affair, will be followed by a public memorial service in St David’s Cathedral at a date to be announced.

His son Meirion has passed on the following:

My father's relationship with the RWF began when he became Rector of Wrexham in 1974 and Chaplain of the Comrades Association. It continued for many years.

Specific events he played a major part in included:

• Laying up of the Old 4th Battalion RWF Colours @ St Giles Wrexham on 5 Sep 76.
• Laying up of the Old 6th/7th Battalion RWF (TA) Colours @ Bangor Cathedral on 15 Oct 77.
• Dedication of the New Standard of the RWF Comrades Association @ Bangor Cathedral on 7 Sep 80, I believe he dealt with a certain Major General P R Leuchars CBE regards this service.
• Commemorative Service of the RWF Tercentenary @ St Giles Wrexham on 22 Apr 89 where he gave the address, and Brigadier A C Vivian CBE wrote to thank him.
• Giving the address at the Drum-head Service on 13 Sep 95 when Maj Gen Morgan Llewellyn presented campaign medals on the Battalion's return from Bosnia.

My father dedicated the 1st Battalions' new Colours in 1976 and was privileged to see them being marched off as the Queen presented the new Colours at Chepstow on 22 May 96.

His other Army connection were with the Castle Martin ranges when living in Pembrokeshire. He also took part in many of the RWF regiment's St David's dinners and enjoyed training weekends at Folkstone in the Summer of 1974 and Tidworth in 1975.

There will be a Memorial Service at St David's Cathedral in the Spring where we hope to honour his life and all his connections such as those with the RWF.

Sorry to hear this. I certainly remember the Drumhead Service he officiated at in 1995 at Brawdy.
