Les Catherall RWF Normandy
To all our Forum ResearchersAs Hon Secretary of the Shotton and Deeside Branch RWFCA, I received an inquiry from a local lady who is the daughter a Les Catherall who served in the RWF during Normandy Campaign She was inquiring what medals that he had might been awarded if any and how would she go about recovering them as she is doing the "Family Tree" no service number, no Bn served in but a Shotton/Connah's Quay man. I know it's a "long shot but if anyone could throw some "light" on the matter it would be very much appreciated.Best RegardsBennytheBall

Re: Les Catherall RWF Normandy
Very difficult Benny without a service no. I had a look through the nom role of the 6th Bn down to LCpl level. No mention. No awards issued, so no mention in Red Dragon either.
A long shot perhaps; was he a member of comrades? If so, its possible that the ladies at RHQ Wrexham may have his service details logged somewhere?
Just a thought.

Re: Les Catherall RWF Normandy
Les Could have been a member of 158 brigade, possibly the 4th TA Bn, he could be entitle to “ War Medal, Defence Medal, 1939-45 Star and France & Germany Star. others on the forum could move this inquiry forward for you.

Re: Les Catherall RWF Normandy
I have been unable to find any trace of a Les Catherall, but I am wondering if this is the man as it was not at all unusual to be know by your middle name:
4197723 John Leslie Catherall. He enlisted 15th January 1940 and served for the duration being discharged in April 1946.

Re: Les Catherall RWF Normandy
Just thinking aloud, that its a very real possibility that he may have been 71 Anti-Tank Regiment (RWF) or 116 Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment (RWF).
Request the service records and we'll be able to tell you anything you need to know...

You can always get him to just request the records again? Its really not that hard to do - just a wait involved.
