12783 Pte TJ Bennett RWF

The widow of a past branch president has come across some medals that were given to him before he died, they are not his and she would like to trace any family of Pte Bennett JT so as she can maybe pass them onto them.

According to his medal card Pte 12783 Thomas J Bennett transferred to South Wales Borderers as Pte 41319. He got a trio having landed in France 20/7/1915. However the card is marked to the effect that all the medals were returned in 1921. One of the medal experts may wish to comment about this and how a RWF number would be on the medal. He did re enlist in RWF as 4181485.

What part of the country do they live Benny? Lots of Connahs Quay/Hawarden men around his number but nothing on him though.

Thomas John Bennett 41 Cestrian St, Connahs Quay. 41319 in 10th SWB

Many Thanks for that, I will ask her to go to the local records office and try and trace any living family that he might have?

The Records Office might mean a lot of work in tracing marriages, births etc etc.It might be an idea to ask on some of the genealogical forums if he is in someones family tree.

I'll ask the question if you want (without declaring too much as to why)

PM me your email and I'll send you the medal card. Is the RWF number on all three? Hopefully one of the medal experts could tell us what should be, given he served SWB as well. The 'returned' bit might be for alterations.
