What good thinks have the political parties done for us in the last 100 years

It may all appear to be falling down around our ears......and I guess that some people on here will no doubt bring up something like "But they dont do anything for us, they cut our jobs, make us poor, destroying our country etc!" but...... lets think of the big picture, by that, I mean what the British Goverment has done for the "Collective good" of the UK. Now, i’m the first to moan and complain against the Left wing, PC brigade politics.....as seen on other threads! However, on the whole, we have it damn good in the UK.
The following is a small list of what the UK has, due to the different Political Parties and their policies over the past Century. It is their policies which have shaped what the UK is today. It is due to our Political Parties, that I can feel safe to voice my opinion without having a rifle butt smashed across my grid, due to our political system, I can make a complaint against anyone....even the Police... even the Judicial system its self without fear of retaliation or violence.
It is due to UK Political Policies that despite our size, the UK has the world’s 6th largest economy, 8th largest purchasing power. 1st industrialised Nation. Until the end of WWII, was still the dominant World Power. Our economic, cultural, military (we have the world’s 3rd largest Military expenditure), scientific advancements are due to Politics.
Our Politics have influenced other nations (look up 'Westminster System') our Wealth fare system, NHS. Political leaders in the EU, permanant member of the UN, member of the Commonwealth of Nations, G8, G20, NATO, WTO. Independant Nuclear Weapons. Devolved National Administraions so our MPs etc can deal more with "at home issues".
So, what have our Political Parties ever done for us over the past 100 years?...... A lot...... I’m proud to be British

were all proud to be British,but i dont know what any of the policies you mentioned has done for me and my family,the country on the whole is in a right mess,schools,hospitals,police force,two leaders who have no clue,alls i know is the next few years is giong to be expensive,get the immigrants OUT,we dont know how many foreign workers we have here,

I too am proud to be British, but to credit politicians and political parties for the achievements of this nation, would discredit the people of this nation who actually did the achieving. We have won wars by soldiers dying in foreign lands on the whim of politicians - who won the wars. We built the finest ships in the world - how many politicians came out of the shipyards. We built (and still do) the finest aircraft engines in the world-most politicians couldn't do an oil change. We have freedom of speech in this country, no rifle butt needed - just deaf ears.

We have a justice system that protects politicians more than it does ordinary citizens (you try saying you didn't realise it was illegall or I misunderstood the rules). We have politicians in Europe-which means we can be told how to run our country and amend our laws without wasting a stamp (prisoners will have the right to vote or we will fine you).

This country has too many immigrants (not racism-fact) the people know it, the immigrants even know it but the politicians who are responsible for immigration appear to disagree. There have been politicians that have come up with very good ideas which is why they were selected for the job by the people. Having an idea is one thing, making it work is a totally different ball game. Sir William Beveridge-the welfare state. In principal a fantastic idea but it has been juggled and revamped so many times (by politicans) that it is now a seething mass of red tape tape that is understood by very few who run it.

Yes, Politics has played a huge part in our history, we are pack animals and therefore need a form of leadership. However, it is because of the people of this country, their courage, their hard work and their determination, that we are where we are in world standings, not because of any political party. Only days after announcing more cuts to our armed forces, William Hague is telling the Arab world how to sort their problems and what is and what is not acceptable to do in their own country. That is one thing we can credit our political parties , sticking their fat noses where they do not belong, and sending our soldiers once again to die on foreign soil. Politicians only talk a good fight...some of them anyway. For me Political parties are a nessesary evil, no more no less.

Every time i look at this thread i try to think of something good they have done, and , for the life of me , i cant. We all make our own way thro life ,hopefully the right wayand doing things that will better ourselves and our families. There are people who have done things for the good of our once great country, and im afraid politicians are not in this cataory, Gwyn has hit the nail on the head, i agree with all he has said, well put mucka. we all live and abide by the laws laid down in this country, but it is something else to be able to make your own laws and then brake them, and state when caught, ( i cant be prosecuted) .
IMIGRATION , a sore subject for us all, HOW MANY! just go to any factory or building site and listen to all the different languages being spoken, but what do the politicians say, we need them to help our economy and growth, just ask them how many there are , you will not get a straight answer, i live in a street of fifteen houses ten of which are occupied by foriegn families, there is no talking to people living in your street anymore because you have to learn different languages just to be understood. POLITICIANS, take them into a field and shoot them down like the dogs they are ( bloody hell , i feel better) take care all

Can´t think of anything how they helped me ??? when i go home to visit family i cant belive how bad its got back home,
Tryed to take a pic of my niece in her school with my daughter beside her and was told i would need the consent of her mother who was standing by me (one might be a pervert) britian has sunk , hook , line and sinker, im glad i stayed in Germany the last 21 years
