    Re: Reseachers.. Help please

    hi all.
found the coordinates of the grave on www.cwgc.org . hopefully i will be able to get up there on tuesday.
as john mentioned a communal grave i think a bit of explanation is in order. as malta is at it's maximum only 20 miles by 9, and cremation is not allowed on the island burial space is in very short supply,
also as malta is sandstone every bit of agricultural land is used , so all graves are dug out of the rock, so they rarely dig individual holes. however once a body has been in a grave for 2 to 3 years the bones are removed from the grave and taken to a bone vault.where they remain and the grave re-used,a plaque is then put on the wall of the cemetry.
but the graves maintained by the cwgc are not subject to this system, they remain untouched.

Bob Bacon has assisted in replacing my too small map with a real one (thanks Bob). The red dot appears to have gone AWOL in the process, so here is the relevant part of the map again.

    hi all
have got some pics of the grave. the first 3 are of the cemetry the 4 th is the grave, he is the 2nd name from the top and the final pic is the inscription on the stone.
the cemetry is about 2 miles from mtarfa. We actualy passed it on the bus to mdina. chow if your friend should ever wish to visit the site let me know and i'll give you detailed directions.
i was'nt sure if we were going t be able to make the trip today as we had about 2 hours of torrential rain this morning but it cleared by 10 am and was abut 18deg when the sun came out :) sorry should'nt have said that. ha ha

    Re: Reseachers.. Help please

    hi.
thanks for that.and of course i wish to thank bob and john for their help.i will try and find the other cwgc locations. i do look for any graves with welsh connections. i saw in interesting one in mtarfa.the chap died 1920's he was r.a.f but had been r.f.c.(royal flying corps ). walking these cemeteries is very interesting.
any other info i find i will pass on.
a couple of interesting road names in the old camp area..St Davids road and Conway close. I wondered if there was a welsh connection.
i have a couple of pics of them and i wondered if they might be of interest to the forum.
