my grandfather.
Help I am trying to get some information about my grandfather. I Belive he served with the Cheshires in ww1,his service no is 53385 .I have tried to access the archives with no sucess, any info how to get anywhere i would be extremly greatful.

Have you downloaded his medal card from the National Archives site yet Peter? Thats the normal starting point.

Guessing the man in question is John William Edwards?
If so he also saw service with the Welsh Regiment with the service number 52621, enlisting 25th July 1916. He later transferred to the Cheshire Regiment with whom he was discharged on the 12th August 1919, being awarded a Silver War Badge under King's Regulations paragraph 392 (XVI) Which meant "No longer physically fit for service"
He has a medal index card stating entitlement to the war & victory medal, and another for the Silver War Badge.
I also had a quick look for service papers, but could not find them.
