    Dear Paul,
Regrettably I can not recall you father in the “1st Battalion The Royal Welch Fusiliers” although I only joined the Battalion in January 1960. Could you of mistaken his Regiment.
You stated that you Father did his National Service with RWF 1953 -1956, and stationed in Egypt. None of the Royal Welch Fusiliers Battalions was stationed in Egypt at that time.
Covering the dates 1960 - 1963 the 1st Battalion RWF was stationed at Carter Barracks Bulford Wiltshire, moving to BAOR Iserlohn July 1964.
Possibly other Forum members will pick up on this enquire and help you move forward.
    Regards Glyn

    Hi Glyn
Thanks for your help mate, after your reply I done some more digging and have been informed that he did join 1RWF in 53 but then had a transfer to the regimental police in Tel-el-kebir in Egypt but that was with the R.A.O.C. This was during his national service days. When he rejoined it was with 1RWF which must have been at Bulford as he only done approximately 12months in Iserlohn before he had a compassionate discharge.
I have to go to Sydney today for five days, so I will try and get some more info on my return.Again thanks for you and Bennytheball's help as I have not got one photo of my dad while he was in.

    Hi Glyn / Benny

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you,but i had to wait for my Mother to send my Fathers Army form B.108 Certifate of Service book over to me which she had found, on it, it has that he enlisted with the Royal Welch Fusiliers on the 16 May 1962, at Welsh Bde Depot. His C.O. while he was in looks like Ken Barber and he first got posted to B.A.O.R. on the 10/5/63.

    Regards
    Buzz Bowen

    Hi Paul,
I remember a Gwyn Bowen in Iserlohn, he used to knock around with Jack Rees, who sadly passed on earlier this year.
Jack was in Delta Coy as I was, and had a compassionate posting to Hythe from Iserlohn. I'm not sure if this Gwyn was your dad though.

    Joe Cartwright.

    Benny,
The first served in Jamaica from March 1951 to 1954. When the 1st returned to the UK I believe it was at Wroughton airfield near Swindon and the Queen presented new colours to the 1st2nd and 4th Battalions RWF
