    Italy

Off to Italy shortly for a wedding. Never been before and will be going to Rimini, Venice and Lake Garda. Any recommendations like places to see/avoid or any other advice would be be very welcome.
If I can help somebody as I pass along, my living will not be in vain.

If you get the chance to go to Florence - it is the most beautiful city. Down the coast from Rimini is the smaller resort of Riccione - we stayed there some years ago and it is very nice. When you are in Venice, you must go out to the islands in the lagoon - Murano is nice but a bit touristy - you can buy some of the lovely glassware that is made there.

I know you will have a lovely time - take plenty of money - Italy is very expensive!

Riccione is a nice place, the countryside is good for a drive round. In Venice, you might get some good restaurants by asking the at the hotel where to go to avoid the touristtraps. The doge palace is a must. Been there twice, but have preferred the motor boat taxis (nice, vintage motor boats in mahogany) before the gondolas, which are a bit overpriced to my mind, and difficult to barter with. A tour on the canals are a must though. Coffee on the Piazza costs more than a normal lunch, but what a place!

Will see if there is anything of RWF interest in the vicinity, the 6th (royal welch) parachute battalion was in the Italian campaign 1944-45.
