I think it's more frustration and disappointment than hatred - many here would no doubt be proud to be British if England did well, but if they don't - we're Welsh and nothing to do with 'em!

There's so many factors that could have contributed to their performance. Altitude, that awful racket from those stupid horns, an unusual general atmosphere, the amount of high profile foreign players in English premiership teams that end up playing against the country that has nurtured and honed their skills - more.

I watched the Spain/Portugal match last night (well, some of the first half and all of the second) and I didn't realise Ronaldo was playing for quite some time - but when playing for Man U he was everywhere - so not just England having probs pinning hopes on the likes of Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard.

For the last 20 mins of the first half of the Germany game I thought England came together - some spark at last, but the second goal, which was not only definitely a goal but a damn good goal, was pathetically not allowed. The German Goalkeeper knew it was over the line - if it was about sport he would have fessed up to the ref - he really should have protested as much as if he'd stopped a ball just outside the line and the ref/linesman had given a goal, but no way, because he knew his opposite number would not have done the same; no goalkeeper would, just like no player seeing an opponent sent off or booked unfairly would compalin -which is fair enough - play the whistle, but not just when it suits.

Had England come back out for the second half at two-all it may have been a whole lot different - that spark may have carried through, who knows.

Football at club level - above a certain level, has become more about business than sport - or at least equal - Man U is a PLC - players have their own companies - blah blah.

I remember (when I were a lad) when it was a whole lot different - I supported Leeds Utd in the early 70's (Well, I say 'support' - never actually attended a match - 'followed' would be a better word! If I 'supported' anyone it would have been Wrexham - saw them play at the racecourse plenty of times)

Don Revie had a Yorkshire accent and Leeds had a full team of British/Irish Internationals Norman 'bite yer legs' Hunter, Paul 'put me in any position, even in goal' Madeley, Johnny 'pass the ball on a sixpence' Giles Peter 'highest speed shot in the game' Lorimer, Terry 'I'm a defender but I worry the other teams's goalkeeper' Cooper (click for some nostalgia) Alan 'sniffer' Clark (Click for some more) etc etc etc.

Where's all the nicknames these days?

Plus - we now play 'Germany' - we used to play W. Germany and E. Germany (DDR) - now East and West are united they have far more scope, but we still choose to divide our nation in to three separate countries and waive the option of having a British or a United Kingdom team.

    Fine - suffer!

Fella went into a kinky Bordello in Hamburg and asked how much for total humiliation, the Madame replied 45 Euros or £37 pounds sterling. What do I get for that asked the bloke........an England shirt! replied the Madame.
(joke ..no hatred or disrespect intended and I got the joke from a staunch England supporter)

    Re: World Cup

England lost and I think it is now time for the jokes, imcriminations and alike to stop.

Lets see what the 'big wigs' in the FA have to say after their meetings with various players and managers, before anythibng else is said.

    Re: World Cup

Roger, bah humbug! I wanted England to go all the way but it didn't happen and as with most dissapointments, we have to get over it and what better way than the "squaddie way" a bit of craic between like minded old soldiers. There is too much serious bad news in the world to worry about a bit of humour and look at the views and responses this thread has produced, a few people have commented that the forum has been a little quiet lately well this at least has got some reponse rather than betting on V bookie or playing the arcades etc. Seriously, nobody is stirring up race hatred (even if there has been a little "chest beating bravado") it's a bit of fun.......remember what that was like before PC.
