I"m all for members of the Forum helping fellow members, what about the individual making the donation, not the business, ie the donation is paid from the individual"s account and is therefore not tax claimable to them and not treated as trading income by the Forum. Worth asking the Tax man.

    Hi Guys ,
Hingey is spot on with regards to HMRC . Whatever the medium , if services are offered to an audience then it is classed as advertising . There are strict guidelines issued by the HMRC and even donations from personal accounts are not acceptable and attract a liability to the HMRC .

It is a great idea by Barry but the implications are significant and coupled with an extension of the input required by the moderator team would make it unfeasable .

Quite a lot of local media is purely funded by advertising which enables that media to remain in publication . This is classed as a business which attracts liabilities to the HMRC .
This forum relies totally on the donations from it's members and as such attracts no liability to the HMRC .

Personally , I do not see a way around this . It maybe that forum members make better use of their profiles and clearly state what they do without touting so to speak . We all read each others profiles and there is nothing wrong with anyone posing the question , "does anybody know someone who does........" through the normal "post your questions here" channel .

In conclusion , a great idea however , fraught with legal implications and an absolute nightmare to administer .

I am all for helping each other out as let's face it we all need a hand now and then . We are a family , we have been brought up that way , we will always remain a family and ways be there for each other . All it takes is a call or a message and if we can , we will help .

Just my thoughts lads / ladies .

    Gentlemen,
Re the position of upsetting the tax man over our new proposed page. If you can come under the umbrella of the RWFCA association (RHQ Wrexham) we might be able to use our Charity number and be excused paying tax.
    Regards RBD

Al Capone could not get away with Tax evasion but under an umbrella of RWFCA we could probably pull it off. What is there to lose...The head of the Forum being charged with an offence, RWFCA charged for aiding and abetting and the Loss of the charity number at the RWFCA. Worth thinking about. Any comment from RHQ?

What's the big deal? Just have a "Members' ads" link in the sidebar - just like the associations & clubs, military news, etc etc.

What already exists in the sidebar needs work as in updating and monitoring and no-one pays for that.

If it's free then the taxman is out of the equation - ads would be submitted for approval; I don't think anyone flogging viagra would cut it.

Of course being a donator may help - wink wink!

If anyone wanted to go for advertising bigtime - like having a piad-for link on the homepage as a sponsor or something, that might be a different ballgame and it would be down to Bob to decide if he wanted to change the look of the homepage to include commercial stuff just as it would if he wanted the extra work of vetting and placing 'free' ads.
Working for yourself is great, not only can you work half days, you can choose which 12 hours!

    Hello Gwyn,
I am very glad Alcatraz has been closed down. The comparison was possibly a bit IFFY. But I do know what you mean.
