Re: changes to how beret is won
You are right , I was always told to wear it over the eye . It depended who your CSM was really. As I recall , quite a few lads wore it on the side of the head , not quite the side , but not above the eye . Yoko and Ken Lloyd spring to mind .

Re: changes to how beret is won
Its more of a Foreign thing many French units wear it like that, I suppose its traditional to them may look to be cool, Personally I feel over the Left eye is the way it should remain its looks more professional, next they will have the cord hanging loose at the rear, That's fine for certain units in Europe!
Has it Changed?

Re: changes to how beret is won
I was brought up in an army environment, served 29 years in the Royal Wekch and was always told/taught, trhat the cap badge was over the left eye.
When you look at a soldier now, the majority of time you cannot see initially which regiment/corps he or she is from.

The Hackle will always stand proud wherever the Badge is.

Re: changes to how beret is won
There has been no change to wearing the cap badge over the left eye, its just some indivauls think its good to wear it on the side, trust me it dosent get unnoticed and CSM`s & Pl Sgts are all over it if the indivaual gets caught doing it they will be delt with....and we have not stopped wearing the Hackle we still wear it with pride

Re: changes to how beret is won
I think the Para's started it all by wearing their berets with the cap badge over the left ear as early as 1972 if not earlier, not something that the Royal Welch followed at the time.

The Paras considered it "ally/cool"to wear their beret badge to the left side of the eye with each battalion having their own tilt on the thing, you could sometimes tell which battalion they were without looking for the DZ flash just by the way the beret was worn
