    Re: Walk of shame

In Australia, a young man burnt an Aussie flag at demonstration of some sort. His punishment apart from a public apology, was to carry the nation flag for the local RSL on ANZAC Day. There was outrage because this is seen as a privalage. Can you imagine how he felt having to walk down all those streets lined with people who knew exactly what he'd done?

A “WALTER MITTY” figure who outraged veterans by marching in a Remembrance Day parade wearing an SAS beret and an “impossible” array of medals was last night identified by local veterans.

when challenged it says he admitted the 'fraud', but then later on he is keeping up the act by saying he is covered by the official secrets act!

He is obviously attention seeking - but .... surely, he would of known that the medals he displayed would at some point bring the type of attention that would put his 'game' at risk?

That is probably why this "Syndrome" is thought to be a medical condition. We have all met Walter Mitty's in the Army to the point where an individual exagerates, but normally clam up or make light of it when caught out.
This guy however, seems to be unable to get back to the real world even when found out. Sadly, he is unlikely to be the only man who wears non-entitled medals, particularly on rememberence day as it is a perfect occasion to act out their fantasies and for one day perhaps feel that they belong.
Mental illness comes in many forms, from depression to psychotic or even psychopathic. Thankfully he is a lesser of the evils in my book. It is another subject, but we no longer deal with mental illness in this county as we should therefore, we should neither be shocked or suprised at this sort of of thing occuring. Again, I am not defending this mans actions but he did not beat a child to death or set fire to his girlfriend when stoned out of his mind. The man needs help, not a Lynch mob.
If I can help somebody as I pass along, my living will not be in vain.

I've seen a few like this bloke about, not as many medals but tin-pot ones just the same. I know of one bloke once, asked to join a certain comrades Branch but on the question of his service number he replied:
'So long ago now, can't remember it!' Yeah right!.

As Gwyn has stated, perhaps he is sick and needs some help. At least he was not wearing a Royal Welch badge and hackle. That would have been sacrilege.

    Re: Walk of shame

There are so many fantasists around its unbelievable. There's a guy in work with me who claims to be ex sas. Says he still does a bit on the weekend in Afghanistan. He looks me in the eye and says it. I know he's lying, he knows he's lying but he can't help himself. He has pictures of himself standing next to a helicopter on "ops" with all his mates eyes blanked out Bravo Two Zero style.

I have pointed out to him that if he was on "ops" how come he has a BFA on the end of his SLR? Doesn't phase him at all, comes out a huge pile of Bull s!*t to justify it.

    Medication needed.

Scouse with an LS&GC, now that would be fantasy. Yes matey I'm sure your getting them mounted. My kids have a wager...they reckon 2013!!!!

On the plus side, in 50 yrs time, an equivalent of Richard Ward is going to spend months/possibly years trying to work out why a picture of the parade marshall at Llan, shows medals that don't match his records.

At least they have a day out with you once a year :winker:

Or worse still Al, once the historians have worked out it must be AP by process of elimination - how the hell he forfeited his LSGC later!
