rehabilitation
for those of you that know me and know of my recent hiccup (heart attack) i would just like to boast that today wednesday 24th june i went from abergavenny to the top of the sugar loaf and back down with no problems , the first time i have done that since training .
the reason i am sharing this with you is if anyone is in the unfortunate position i was in and felt like life was over as we know it (jim) it isnt , if i can do it ,who apart from work was a couch potato then anyone can and it is all down to the local health rehabilitation programme that gave me the confidence and the kick up the arris that i needed , trouble is now im looking for another challenge so watch out snowdon (like hell )

Re: rehabilitation
Well done Dutch, great to hear you are up and at 'em!!Snowdon is quite accessible on the right path, and a new cafe has opened at the summit!! If you fancy it, give me an e mail.
Im Just recovering from a knee Op and another scare, but have planned the three peaks challenge for September. There is room for you mate. Me and a couple of mates from home are doing Ben Nevis, Scaffel Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours, including travelling time between them. (I must admit, I thought they said 24 days at first!!) We are doing it for Help for Heroes, so standby with sponsor money at commrades weekend!!
Once again, excellent news on your achievemnt, Good luck with your rehabilitation and keep at it!

Re: rehabilitation
Hey Dutch,
I had the same thing happen to me several years ago. I felt as fit as a fiddle, went to the gym regularly, don't eat junk food, don't smoke, don't drink much (yer right) well three out of four is not bad. Anyway, my genes got me (all my family have heart conditions) and I had a heart attack in the middle of an ice hockey game.
I also have done the re-hab course and look and feel great (ask Neil Wilson) but know that I have to be careful. However, I am still going to the gym for a couple of hours, three or fours times a week and again feel fantastic.
It's great to feel like this but you have to keep in mind that you now have a heart condition and that there is a weakness there. Always carry your Nitro spray and let people know your condition if you are going to attempt stressful activities like the snowdon climb. Mind you, don't let that stop you. Good for you and keep that positive spirit alive, as well as remembering to eat your 12 almonds a day. Stay healthy my friend.
Scouse I did the three peaks you are talking about several years ago for a charity event. We did the Dartmoor "jail break" and had to reach the three peaks in 24 hours. However, just to be different I had my photo taken "mooning" on each summit and it was darned cold on Ben Nevis I can tell you, it was in the middle of a snow storm. You should do the same thing and we can compare photos. Just kidding honest, mine are not a pretty sight. But people know it's me cos I have a birth mark on my left "cheek".
Remember folks, you are not invincible, take good care of yourselves and the ones you love.

Re: rehabilitation
scouse thats an excellent offer and i thank you for it but at this moment in time a little bit out of my reach but as i say thank you for the offer.
my aim at the moment is to get fighting fit to get back to work in september doctors permitting and like you dilwyn i am out every day either power walking up and down the canals or anywhere that is a long enough walk and running up the nature reserve right outside my door . i have never felt fitter since the army but as you said i know have a weakness and am mindful of the fact and use a heart monitor for this reason , the main reason for my post was that after being in hospital and rehab the ammount of people i met who seemed to have given up shocked me , and some of these like me have young kids mine being 10and 15 and the very thought of leaving them behind because i didnt look after myself or simply turned up my toes because i gave up never entered my head , maybe it is squaddie mentality i dont know but my aim was to die at 90+ after just finishing my fourth bedroom olympic session of the day with a nubile 21 year old but alas a bit like scouses 3 peaks offer a bit out of my reach ............................ at the moment.
thanks for your replies and encouragement and stay well

Re: rehabilitation
Every morning I have a moan and a whinge (to myself of course, the wife has given up listening) about the Arthritis and all the other aches and pains but today I am taking a day off. You guys are inspirational in the way you deal with the "serious" problems that you have had to overcome . Thanks and stay well my friends.

Re: rehabilitation
Very much like Gwyn I no longer intend to whinge about my knees and back as much as I have. Dutch & Dilwyn you are both an inspiration to all and I totally admire the way you have just got on with it. Stay well both.
To have a friend, you need to be a friend.
