Re: Words to the Galloping 23rd
Dave,
I think it goes something like this.
We are the galloping 23rd, We'll beat the enemy by and by.
Every man in the Regiment, is willing to do or die aye aye aye.
We are the galloping 23rd, second to the Navy on the sea.
If it was'nt for the galloping 23r erd erd, where the hell would the Army be, ee ee e.
Miles behind the line shoveling s...t (coal)
Miles behind the lines shoveling s..t (coal)
If it was'nt for the galloping 23r erd erd where the hell would the Army be!
Repeat
Repeat
Repeat
Sorry can not help with "We are the Warriors".

Re: Words to the Galloping 23rd
Im sure the words are already on here Dave, I can recall my self and Col Bob Lloyd having a go at them on a thread a couple of years ago.
Some of 2PL's "Big Tom's" boys will know the "We Are Warriors" song....Dutch?

Re: Words to the Galloping 23rd
Dave its actually 2 songs rolled into one, each generation changes the lyrics of the 2nd song slightly, My generation sang about Belfast, the guys from the 60's sang about Cyprus. I suspect you will prepare an Afghan version!!!!
The first song has references to the Great War, and indicates how long varients of it have been about. There probably was a dodgy CSM sporting a DCM!!!!
I've done this from memory, its possible there are some errors. Have a great day mate, and well done on maintaining the traditions.

[I]We are the galloping 23rd, we'll take the enemy by and by,
every man in the regiment is ready to do or die.
We are the galloping 23rd, second to the navy and the sea.
If it wasn't for the galloping 23rd,
where the hell would the army be.........I'll tell yer
Miles behind the lines shovelling ****,
miles behind the lines shovelling ****.
If it wasn't for the galloping 23rd, where the hell would the army be.
Now our Sgt Maj, he'd nevered fired a gun,
and he'd won the DCM for the things he'd never done,
and when the boys went over,
you'd see the ******* run the other way,
the other way....I'll tell yer
Miles behind the lines shovelling ****,
miles behind the lines shovelling ****.
If it wasn't for the galloping 23rd, where the hell would the army be.

Now we went to belfast to see what they were doing,
and when we got there the place was in a ruin.
Oh we havn't seen Mcstoifen for a helluva time,
he must have been blown up by a bomb.
Well if he's the leader of the IRA,
well **** him he's no cousin of mine
No cousin of mine,
no cousin of mine...
I've got cousins of every kind......................
England, Scotland, Ireland or WALES
Russia, Prussia and Jerusalem
South Africa America and Germany, all around the lands.
But if he's the leader of the IRA.
Well **** him he's no cousin
**** him he's no cousin
**** him he's no cousin of mine....

Re: Words to the Galloping 23rd
As I recall it goes somthing like this Tom 15 will help out i'm sure. Sung with tongue forced down between lower gums and teeth.
We are Warriors, we are men (Chorus sung beating chests)
we got a wifle, and a bullit.
We came across a Mountain
we couldn't go under it
we couldnt go awound it
we couldn't go through it
we had to go over it.
We are warriors we are men
we got a wifle and a bullit
We came across a Railway
we couldn't under it,
we couldn't go awound it,
we couldn't go through it,
we had to go over it!
We are warriors, we are men
we got a wifle, and a bullit.
We came across a Desert
we couldn't go under it
we couldn't go awound it
we couldn't go through it
we had to go over it!
We are warriors we are men
we got a wifle and a Bullit
We came across a river
we couldn't go under it
we couldnt go awound it
we couldn't go through it
we had to go over it!
We are warriors, we are men
we got a wifle, and a bullit.
We came across a Lady
we couln't go under her
we couldn't go awound her
we couldn't go over her
WE HAD TO GO THROUGH HER!!!
Thanks Dilwyn Bach. (Thom 15)

Re: Words to the Galloping 23rd
Well done Nick, although I think we sang Dersert instead of Railway. But if you want to put in Railway it would be Wailway.
Brings back thoughts of fun times in The Red Dragon
