    Nice one Joe

    Col C Hince. SHAPE.
Col JP Lloyd. ADC to the Queen.
Lt Col RM Llewellyn. 1 RWF
Lt Col MI Burkham. 3 RWF
I didn't have the above on my list.

I only have one chap not in the list above :

    WO2 F Green 1/RWF

Will be interesting to see if anymore come out of the woodwork.

    Joe,

Excellent bit of detective work. I suppose its easy when you have all those old names in front of you. Cetrtainly brought back some memories. Thanks again Joe.

    Rich,

WO2 F Green was in fact Band Sergeant Major Fred Green.

    Re: Silver Jubilee Medal (1977)

So this is the combined list :

    L/Cpl Braham, Den 1st Bn
    Capt Broad J. 1st Bn
    L/Cpl Burn E. 1st Bn
WO 2 Cooper, Brian 1st Bn
    Sgt Cowling B. 1st Bn
    Cpl Dagnell P. 1st Bn
    Cpl Davies J. 1st Bn
    Fus Dean J. 1st Bn
    Sgt Doutch E. 1st Bn
    Maj Egan J. 3rd Bn
WO 2 Evans, George 3rd Bn
    Sgt Gittings D. 1st Bn
Col Graesser Sir Alistair Durward DSO OBE MC TD JP DL Hon Col 3rd Bn
WO 2 Green, Fred 1st Bn Band Sgt Major
    WO 1 Hughes B. 1st Bn Bandmaster
    Cpl Jasper Ray 1st Bn
Maj Gen Leuchars P. CBE Col RWF
    Cpl Rowlands, Carl 1st Bn
    C/Sgt Thomas J. 1st Bn
    Col Hince C SHAFE
Col Lloyd J P ADC to Queen
    Lt Col Llewellyn R M 1st Bn
    Lt Col Burkham M I 3rd Bn
Can anyone add any details, coys, photos, ect ?

Would be good if we could gather as much useful info as we can for future generations. I can supply service numbers for any of the above if needed to narrow the field.

I would also be personally interested to see a photo of a RWF medal group with one in. (My anorak tendencies coming through ..... )

I had to look up Col Graesser, he won the MC in 1944 with the Reconnaissance Corps and the DSO in the gazette of 1946 with the same unit. Anyone know when he came to the RWF ?

    Re: Silver Jubilee Medal (1977)

The first mention I have found of Col Sir Allistair Grasser was when he took over Honorary Col of the 4th Cadet Bn RWF in May 1972, he was also Hon Col of the 3rd Bn RWF from 17th May 1972-16th Nov 1980.
My guess is that he came from outside the Regiment, by the way Fred Green was awarded the MSM.
    Regards,
    Joe.

    Re: Silver Jubilee Medal (1977)

There is an error in the book which I quoted from regarding Col Sir Alistair Graesser, he died in 1993 so he could not have been Hon Col of 3 RWF from 1993 -1980 as quoted in the Regimental Records.
    Sorry to give duff info.
    Regards,
    Joe.

    Re: Silver Jubilee Medal (1977)

    No problem Joe !

One thing I have learned in my many years researching, never solely rely on other peoples books or findings. Dig and cross reference as much as you can.

Which is why threads like this, and help like yours are invaluable !

It is much easier to talk to folk who knew these chaps, or the chaps themselves. Any mistakes can be easily ironed out that way.

Some of my World War One research has given me an enormous headache - the problem being that the old soldiers have faded away and there is nobody left to ask.

Thanks again for all your help Joe, very much appreciated. If we keep posting our findings and sources it will all come together.

When we are happy with it we can create a new tidy post for all to see.

    Richard
