Silver Jubilee Medal (1977)

1. An off yellow coloured mug, with her Majestey's face on it.

2. A Big round silver medal within a half-hearted attempt of a presentation package( black/transparant folder!!) Anyone else got these?

Further to my last, Is the mug only off yellow because it's been in my mums cupboard for thirty years!!!?

Dont remember much about the Jubilee except ( for Drummers only) four keywords. Church Crookham, Prince of Wales Pub, Jubilee and Bulldog Beer.

Whilst recently seconded to Oxford I got embroiled into a discussion with a cuople of collegues one of which, for want of a (better word), was Ex Airbourne. Not to bore everyone of the "ins and outs" it transpired that the aforementioned individual claimed to be the recipient of variouis medals one of which being the above madal. When I stated that the Jubilee Medal was somewhat contentious at the time of issue he stated that it was now official that anyone who was serving at the time was in fact entitled to wear this medal. To which I vermantly disagreed.
It is, and certainly was my oppinion, that there were only so many medals issued to each Regiment and it was the Commanding Officers decision who was awarded this medal, and that was it! (People that come to mind were Den Braham, Carl Rowlands, CSM Brian Cooper, Bandmaster Hughes and probably the C.O himself).
Can anyone confirm one way or the other if I am right in what I have stated. It would give me the greatest pleasure to contact the above individual over this issue.

I can confirm as i checked with Medal Office each unit that were part of the Silver Jubilee were given a % for the Commanding Officer to issue. Even though more people were involved

Something in my memory tells me Dixie Dean was selected as the Fusilier to receive the medal, after an incident on the previous Belfast tour, when he had protected his boss M A Lloyd from a bricking during a riot.

I think you are right, in fact the issue of these medals were very shortly after this NI tour.

Al the incedent happened during a search Op in the Turf Lodge Dixy and myself were next to each other on the cordon when a brick bounced off my visor and smacked Dixy in the face he got about £700 comp which should have been mine i had only just got married and could have done a lot with that, he was always lucky.
