When I stated that the Jubilee Medal was somewhat contentious at the time of issue he stated that it was now official that anyone who was serving at the time was in fact entitled to wear this medal. It is, and certainly was my oppinion, that there were only so many medals issued to each Regiment and it was the Commanding Officers decision who was awarded this medal, and that was it! (People that come to mind were Den Braham, Carl Rowlands, CSM Brian Cooper, Bandmaster Hughes and probably the C.O himself).
Can anyone confirm one way or the other if I am right in what I have stated. It would give me the greatest pleasure to contact the above individual over this issue.
I can confirm as i checked with Medal Office each unit that were part of the Silver Jubilee were given a % for the Commanding Officer to issue. Even though more people were involved

Re: Silver Jubilee Medal (1977)
Something in my memory tells me Dixie Dean was selected as the Fusilier to receive the medal, after an incident on the previous Belfast tour, when he had protected his boss M A Lloyd from a bricking during a riot.
Right or Wrong?
