Troop deployment
I have just logged into the Sky Website. On looking at the news I see that a Gov Minister has said that troops may be deployed to the Congo.
Surely, the african nations and the UN should be sending in troops befvore outside nations get involved. The British forces are under strength, and if they are deployed, the length of time between tours of duty will come down.
I am not one for saying no to troop involvement, but ENOUGH is ENOUGH, especially where other european countries will not assist in anything that involves sending troops.

Re: Troop deployment
Very true. Surely it could not be possible for them to even think about using nations who are already committing so many of their overstretched resources.
As it is the UN, there are many many countries committed to the organisation. And the vast majority are countries who do not have resources deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. If troop deployment is deemed necessary, then it is about time some other countries stood up to the mark and took on some responsibility.
It is quite a nice cosy feeling knowing that you are under the blanket of the security of the UN. However, now and again some of these countries need to realise that it is a two way commitment and that they will have to do THEIR bit now and again!!
As a nation and an armed force, we have done more than our fair share over the years. In recent years particularly so.
