Rememberance Sunday

I just thought it may be a good opportunity for us to all share what we are doing on Remeberance Sunday. As sombre an occassion that it is, I always find it a great day out, with the old and bold, and younger participants coming together for the most worthwhile cause that this country could ever have, bar none! You never know, there may be old muckers laying a wreath in the very next village to you, so come on let us know who's going where?

I will be in Llangollen, and with my father as Mayor, I have to do my bit. I am laying a wreath in memory of those killed in Bosnia and Northern Ireland.(Yes, Al, I still have your medals, I promise to get mine court mounted by next year!!) Yesterday, I spoke with Cpl Doug Wellington, D Coy, 1Royal Welsh(soon to be Sgt!!), and he has volunteered to lay a wreath in our town on behalf of the Regiment.Nice one Doug. Our own particular ceremony has not changed much over the years, I recall taking part as a cub scout, Army Cadet, Royal Welchman and now a 'has-been!'. My favourite part is when I march behind my mates from the Fire service and give them stick for their appauling drill!! Even I look smart next to them!!(And I normally look like Led Blything after a Section attack!!) Then it's back to a local taverna for a curry, songs of yesteryear, and a heart warming chat with the aged war veterans. Such a humbling experience.

I appreciate that a lot of forum members will be having an official participation with British Legion/Commrades branches etc, and that some members will be working or paying their respects in their own personal way. I just thought it might be a nice opportunity for us to share where we are all going to be. For example, Have the boys on security out in the sand got anything planned?, what are the Battalion doing? What about Barry in France and Pat and sha in holland? Discuss.....................

I will be laying a wreath for and on behalf of the Far East POW's Which my mums dad was a member founder of. Also a personnal cross for all past and present conflicts and that will be in Newbridge My Mum and Dad taking the service as they are both Vicars of Newbridge Gwent.

Well Scouce I will be as usual attending the service in my local village with the Mayor and the council standing along side the Local Booby/Gendarme I do this every year and also attend the VE Day earlier in the year.

There are not so many ex service men here as was in Chepstow when I was a member of the RBL so the after chats are not of the same quality, But as my friends and Colleagues stand proud on home soil I stand too in memory of the fallen in all battles.

The Importance of this day must never be allowed to be forgotten and fade from the county's thoughts

We (Clive and I and as many family members that are around) always go to our local Memorial Park for the service. Clive and Matthew if he's not working will parade with the 'old codgers' (making them the youngest 2 usually!)whilst dad parades in the form of 2 drums which bear his name and are carried and played by lads in the Coventry Corps of Drums.
We join in the service often then having a play in the park with our grandson then home for a family meal. Oh how I miss the Mess Curry lunches though! Every year we always say 'now if we were in the Mess'. We rememebered the fallen, felt proud of our men parading (I loved to hear my dads medals jangle and hated the court mounting!) and enjoyed the company of our friends after ~ those were the days!
This year I'm going to make a curry and enjoy my familys company as well as remember those who've gone before but I will miss the Mess as I always do on this day of the year.
Have an enjoyable day everyone as you remember the past and embrace the future.

Here is a thought.
Has anyone got any more update on the armistace parade as the Health and safety has sugested that the vetrens not to march.
Me personaly think that this is a disgrace and disrespectful to all who gave there lives for all who served and are serving.
What kind of message does this give to our generation for today.
Anyone else got any opinions on this.

As it's not Remembrance Sunday here on the 11th of September we sit down and watch the Festival of Remberance on the telly on Saturday night. As the tears drip down Sharon's cheeks and the lump in my throat gets bigger every year as they set up the drums as an alternative to an alter for burials of fallen servicemen. When they play The Last Post thats when I usually loose it. Our children (20 and 15) stay in to watch it with us out of respect or they have sussed us and find it funny too see us like that.
On Sunday we get up (early for us) and watch the Remembrance parade in London. It's an awesome sight to see so many people congregated to remember all of the heroes that have fallen for our country.
I hope you all have a day to remember. Whether it's playing your part at a ceremony or watching on telly and paying your respects in your own way.

We shall remember them.

Olly, I think I remember the British war cemetary in Berlin.We did a parade there during our tour. If I remember rightly, its up loads of steps next to a busy main road?

We in Caernarfon have a good turnout for the parade, standing on the square during the service you realise that winter is here when your hands and feet begin to feel the cold, they soon warm up after the march around town, I mis the "old war veterans" singing songs like "On the way to mandaley" in the old legion, now ex-service club, It's also special for my family as my Mothers first husband died during the war and has his name is on the Cenotaph.
