Visit to Army Museum
Oct 14 2008 by Carl Butler, Daily Post
THANKS to a grant of £4,760 from Award for Wales, members of Shotton and Deeside Branch of the Royal Welch Fusiliers Comrades Association visited Eden Camp in Yorkshire. The site was a former prisoner of war camp which has been refurbished to accommodate World War Two memorabilia.
How did this trip go? What was the museum like?

Re: Visit to Army Museum
I found this online Bob, after your post piqued my curiosity. It's a great interactive site with the possibility of winning a free ticket on the "guestbook" page.
Would love to hear how the visit went and maybe see some pics.

Should there be a link with your post or am I having a 'blonde' moment!
Is this it?

Re: Visit to Army Museum
Hi all,
I visited Eden Camp about two years ago, it is a very good museum and well worth the effort.
Of interest to forum members and all other Royal Welch is a framed Flash and History presented to I think a local village WI by a Bn of RWF who were posted near to Eden Camp during the 2nd World War, sorry I can not remember which Bn.
Anyway it is worth a visit and the canteen was very good value for money based on old fashioned food of that era.
Regards,
Joe.

Re: Visit to Army Museum
Looking at the site above, it looks impressive. I have had a quick look, and I will spend the weekend look more into the site.
Bit far for a day trip to the museum - this will have to be a summer holiday job, and as we aree campers, we will look at going in the spring or summer next year.

Re: Visit to Army Museum
Hi Bob
The visit to Eden Camp Yorkshire was a great success. 40 of our members and wives/partners attended The Itinery was as follows:
Left Deeside Sunday 31st Aug 08 about lunchtime travelled by luxury coach to a 2night stay half board at the Ramada Hotel Wetherby. Monday 1st Sept coach to Eden Camp with a full day to visit (weather was great) Eden Camp is a museum within a museum, its an old German POW camp in Yorkshire and all the Huts are still in situ and each one has its own theme, I recommended it to anyone. We then went back to the Hotel Monday evening for dinner and a get together in the bar. Tuesday 2nd Sept booked out of the hotel after breakfast and made our way back to Deeside by our Luxury coach (which we had use of all the time it was with us) stopping off for a couple of hours in York arriving back in Deeside about 1700hrs.
Our Chairman and his partner came up with the idea earlier in the year and thought of applying the Lottery grant Wales to ask if they could fund the project and they did.
Our Chairmqan asked for a grant of £4,760 that was the cost for Accommodation and travel only, the branch had to fit the bill for admission into Eden Camp. The local coach Company got us the package and very good too.
Please see the above post with Eden camp Brochure for further info.
Hope to get some photo's posted soon.
Best Regards

PS
Lottery Wales will only grant money for projects in the UK (I believe).

Hello Benny,
To the best of my knowledge Wales lottery grants can be used for U.K. travel/ Visits only. I also believe the rules on the use of grants are draconian. I have sent you a private e mail with my adventures with the lottery grants people?????

We are off there at the end of March with the Denbigh Branch of the RBL. We will visit the Railway Musuem on the Sunday, then stop in a Hotel with Dinner, Bed and Breakfast, then go to Eden Camp on the Monday. We will return on the Mon Afternoon. It is only costing us £49 a head, which isn't a lot. Braz
