    Operational Honours

The following members of The Royal Welsh have been honoured in the Operational Awards List No 31:

    IRAQ:

    OBE

Lieutenant Colonel James Francis Pardoe SWIFT MBE (533656), The Royal Welsh
Lieutenant Colonel Swift has commanded the Brigade’s Manoeuvre battlegroup on over 70 operations on OP TELIC. He has led from the front, especially on strike operations, with determination and courage that has truly been an inspiration to his officers and soldiers.

    MiD

Lieutenant Simon John BEDFORD-SMITH (563539), The Royal Welsh
During a period when many considered a defensive posture, Bedford-Smith found ways to get his platoon on the offensive never resisting the opportunity to lead from the front nor shirking a challenge.

25201882 Private Joseph James ILLIDGE, The Royal Welsh
Despite being told he would have to return home due to an inability to acclimatise Illidge remained in post. As a heat casualty but the only driver he continued at over 70 degree heat until an operation was complete. On a separate operation he did not seek proper medical care for his shrapnel wounds for 5 hours until he had completed his mission.

Major Mark WILLIAMS (541887), The Royal Welsh
Williams has made a significant impact on the campaign. His courageous leadership at the height of hostilities and balanced approach in the early stages of the accommodation marked him out from the rest.

    QCVS
25205774 Private Mohamed Faizul AZMAN, The Royal Welsh, Territorial Army
Azman led on planning, coordinating and controlling his battle group’s Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) plan. His commitment, intelligence and performance have been well above that expected of a private soldier, never mind a reservist with little formal training.

All the above awards were from Iraq and to members of 2 R WELSH (Pte Azman is 3 R WELSH called up to serve with 2 R WELSH). There were also a number of Commanders Commendations.
