    Talking Andrew Gerrard

    I was Watching Sky 3 Last night and a programe called the Hardest Sea side towns was on , when they got to margate , they highlighted a pub landlord as being one of the hardest men the area ,
    this person was Andrew Gerrard , i am sure there will be plenty of people on the forum that remember this guy ,
    i think Gerrard and Austin always went 10 rounds on a sunday .

    cheers all

    Didn't see the programe Led but do remember him, he had an attachment to the boxing club where i live for a while and last time i saw him he was just as mad, i do remember that he wanted to get out to persue a boxing career so marched into porky phillips office and told him that if he didn't get him out he would get the battalion in the papers everyday untill he did, of course after a little stint in the glass house porky obliged.

    Cheers lofty , yea thats the guy , he did some heavywight boxing , and it was mentioned on the programme he lost to Lennox Lewis ,
    He runs a bar now in Margate , and i think the locals give him a wide birth . still it was good to see him , the army dont get people like him anymore .
    I think Roy Price and John Rickard new him very well , also most of the RP Staff and anyone daft enough to get in his way .
    Still all said and done a star man from a bygone era ,

    P.s , nobody wanted the Early call book when his name was on it , now i know why all of us as sprogs got to do the early calls. [ this life expierence will never leave you LOL }

    I remember him well, Austin and him used to have some right barneys in and out of the ring. I also remember locking him up in the jail many a time after one of his barneys. A complete nutter!!!!

    Not that I knew him personaly but I am a boxin nut so therefore have a huge collection of books on the subject so can confirm he did box Lennox Lewis and was stopped in round 4 but was still on his feet. He had a mixed record won some lost some but was renowned for being a hard man. Glad he was out when I joined.

    i was on selection with Jed, in deepcut and we were the only two Welshmen there out of fifty of us. Then in 1978 he still wanted welsh against English after lights out. Good thing was they all backed down. Then met up again in Lemgo, what a bloke.

    I can remember training in the same fleur-de-lis gym as him when I was about 15 years old. He was managed by dai gardiner and fought gary mason british heavyweight champion, jean chanet commonwealth champion as well as lennox lewis on his way up.

    I can remember him sparring with a coloured guy called lee williams who was training to fight herbie hyde. Gerrad battered him.
    He was a losse cannon. If I remember rightly he prided himself on travelling anywhere to fight anyone...which again don't happen anymore.
