The announcement about the death of Major Nigel Anderson was in Saturday’s Times and Daily Telegraph. It reads:
ANDERSON, Nigel James Moffatt, MC DL, of Hamptworth Lodge, Landford, Salisbury, Wiltshire; husband of Daphne, father of Donald, grandfather of Kate and Guy, grandson of the late Mr and Mrs H.C. Moffatt of Goodrich Court, Herefordshire and son of the late Dr. and Mrs J.H. Anderson of Ruthin, North Wales, died peacefully on Friday 23rd May 2008 aged 88. Funeral at 2 p.m. on Friday 6th June at Hamptworth Lodge. Family flowers only please, but donations, if so desired, to I.N. Newman Ltd., 22 High Street, Fordingbridge for The Royal British Legion and Samaritans.
He joined the 4th Battalion (TA) in May 1939 and was one of the officers who helped to form No 2 Independent Company in April 1940. They were sent to Norway in early May, where he won the regiment’s first Military Cross of the war. The circumstances are described in That Astonishing Infantry page 188 (1989 edition) or 173 (2008 edition). He was invalided out of the Army in 1942.
