Mass Exodus 1974-76
Whilst having a catch up chat with Neil "Geordie" Wilson the other night (after 33 years), I was interested to hear his story about leaving the Battalion in the seventies. It made me think back to those years and recalling that there was, or appeared to be, a mass exodus from the Battalion at that time. In Fact , so many prominent members of the Signal Platoon left , my own career was well and truly launched ( I crashed and burned soon after however). I'm sure it must have been the same for others in the Battalion , as the exodus was not restricted to the Sigs and I recall many other prominent members (particularly JNCO's ) leaving at that time . What was the reason/reasons? Was it the thought of the Germany posting? Northern Ireland 4 /6months tours ? or was it ,that the Army at this time was still advertising "Join the Army see the World play lots of sports etc etc" but in reality, the fun had gone. Would anyone who "was that soldier"
care to share their story (regrets/ achievments) with someone who is genuinely interested.
If I can help somebody as I pass along, my living will not be in vain.
