RWFCA Standard Bearers' Training Weekend 19/20 April 08 report
The Branch standard bearers training weekend was held over the 19/20 April 08.
Standard bearers and assistant standard bearers assembled found our beds in the Keep then over to the dining room for a superb lunch at 1230hrs at Hightown Barracks on Saturday 19th. Sadly, the numbers were quite low but those that did attend carried on regardlously.
After lunch we all attended a briefing by Major Arthur Ellingham on the format of the weekend and the forthcoming 1st Bn R Welsh freedom of Wrexham parade over the RWFCA weekend.
This was followed by a bit of low key practice under the watchful eye of Major Ellingham and Benny Ball.
Saturday evening, we all met in A Company 3rd Bn R Welsh Bar for pre dinner drinks
Major Ellingham then laid on a wonderful semi formal regimental theme dinner, silver etc our thanks go out to Paul and Katrina his wife who were the chefs on producing such a lovely meal.
The meal was then followed by a lot of banter and putting the "world right" with Benny Ball providing some jokes from the Benny Ball book of Jokes vol 1. We all then retired back to the bar to "pull up a sand bag" once more. Some of the assembled crowd then decided to remence and head of to see the "lights" of Wrexham town, myself being under tow by Ritchie 99 ( Thanks Rich an excellent night).
Sunday morning, started with an hearty breakfast, followed by more low key practice until about lunchtime when a final "wash up" was had and a lovely packed lunch was provided for our journey home.
A big Thank You must go out to Major Ellingham and his team for what was a very informal but worthwhile training weekend.
This weekend is going to be an on going event in the future so we would like to see a few more attending if possible.
