i dont know?? i know it was Trigger but im sure he is either getting out or out. Capt Kent will know. Sure Nige Garce can nip this in the bud. At the end of the day the sect commds should sort it out and should be briefed by their chain of command accordingly. At the end of the day the recruit should be wearing his CHOICE of regimental identity NOT the identity the pieers wish them to wear. And in my experience as an ex recruiter if the recruit was allocated his preference job/ Regiment and that job was changed due to be rebadged or any other reason, well that recruit can wish to resing untill his choice of HIS capbadge comes vacant.
The shepard is an underestimated tool in the box. If the Bn uses him correctly, the individual can save a lot of hassle and grief. But he has to have a regular point of contact in the Bn ie the RSM. The RSM can control the Shepard and find out exactly whats going on with all issues, down to getting up dates on numbers and drop outs. If im correct the RCMO does this any way. I also understand its hard to place some one there to do the job as shepard, i know Trigger was there but not sure whos there now.
Fellas, all good points and rest assured we are all over this at Regtl level. The Shepherd is Cpl Ashton from the 2nd Bn; he does an excellent job and he works for me as CO recruiting for R WELSH. After Xmas leave (always a point at which Catterick suffers high DAOR rates) we had zero DAORs on our books. This was because we laid on tpt to bring them home and take them back - only Regt to do it. The last platoon passed out 3 weeks ago and had an 82% pass rate - way above the PoW Div avg of about 65%; but they aren't all this good. The RST (used to be RRT) are used to visit and brief up the recruits and the battalions do it as well and I have nurturing money to fund regtl gatherings (Dai's Day, 10 pin bowling etc). We also get the recruits out of Catterick for a weekend to visit the 2nd Bn and will do the same with the Dale when the 1st Bn is back in the Summer - just to show them what they can expect and give them an incentive to hang on in trg. Things have come along a lot in the last 2 yrs but there's still a lot of work to do and the responsibility to get the recruits through trg is everyone's not just the Shepherd and the NCOs in Catterick.
It's reassuring to see the concern raised by you for these sorts of issues. If anyone needs more details, especially on how recruits are allocated to Bns - feel free to PM me.
Sorry - I've just checked further back and seen the messages on collar badges. We will shortly move to a new collar badge probably at the same time as we get the new cap badge. I'll get a copy and post it in this thread in the next couple of days.
Mean time the offrs badge is attached for info. Soldiers badge will be the same except it will be slightly smaller, smoother design and gold/silver in colour.
